Day 1
Yea! Let the fun begin. We finally motored out of here exactly one week late. We have changed the route dramatically because of the heat and my apparent serious illness last week. We left around 7 am and headed north on Hwy 99 to Fresno. In Fresno we went north on Hwy 41 headed to the gold country. Went and looked through the windows of Adam and Diana’s new restaurant (currently under construction…or maybe reconstruction) Smokehouse 41 located in Oakhurst. Hoping for a Labor Day grand opening.
From there went north on Hwy 49 through Mariposa, loved it loved it loved it. Eventually making our way through Bear Valley the former “hangout area” for Joaquin Murietta and Three Finger Jack. And saw the ruins of the old jailhouse that held them for awhile. Finally rolled into Jamestown around 1 pm and had a good old greasy hamburger at a local eatery with great personal service from the waitress.
Even though we only covered 233 miles and actually rode for 7 hours we decided to get a room in Sonora because we were both absolutely spent. We unpacked the bikes and I was asleep within 5 minutes. An hour or so later we went for a much needed walk through old town Sonora. What an amazing place. There is so much history and stories and experiences we could hardly take it all in.
Tomorrow our goal is to spend the night in Truckee. It’s not that many miles, but we plan on taking it even slower than today and stop for many photo ops. We are also going to do our homework and make sure we find a much better hotel than what we are paying for this one…they don’ even have a pool and it was hot today.
